I open the cashier. And then a thought pops into my head: "What if I hit $6,000?" Then: "What if I hit $10,000? Now that would be a story for the forum!" Then: "I’m on a roll right now; I can’t stop."
$4,200. "Well, at least I’ll get $5,000 back." $2,800. "Up to $3,000." $900. "Well, at least $1,000—this is getting ridiculous." $0.
I sit there and realize: I wasn’t playing for $5,600. I was playing for the story I wanted to tell. And I screwed up both the money and the story.
